Q: Is the 2010/2011 Ford Focus going to be new?
I heard that the Ford Focus will be redesigned for 2010 or 2011. Is that true or is it the Ford Fiesta that is new and there will be no new focus???

A: Yes Ford has confirmed a global redesign of the Ford Focus for the 2011 model year. It will finally look the same as the better European version. It will be sold here along with the 2011 Fiesta.

Q: Will the 2011 Ford Focus look like the European one?
I am looking forward to seeing the Ford Focus debut at the Detriot auto show. anyone know if it will look like the current european one, or will it be different?

A: The current European spec Ford Focus is coming to the end of its life and according to Ford design staff here in the UK, is due to be replaced around October 2010. Any new US Focus due to be released soon is unlikely to look like the unreleased Focus. I have no doubt that the 2011 Focus will just look like a larger version of the new Ford Fiesta or S-Max (great looking cars). Many European car manufacturers seem to adopt the ‘Russian doll’ approach of making each model look like its bigger brother, Seat, Vauxhall (Opel) and Ford are the biggest cuprits. A: From what ive seen on ford.com there goin all out. Theyve redone the drivetrain, the inside and outside. the 2012 is gonna be availiable in a coupe and a wagon.The 2012 focus is gonna be gettin at least 35mpg all around. This car is gonna have increased horsepower and technology, like push button start and MyFord Touch™ Driver Connect Technology.

Q: When do the 2011 vehicles become available for the public to buy?
I know they become available before 2011 but I just don’t know exactly what month. I am wanting to get a 2011 Ford Focus or a 2011 Ford Mustang because I heard the 2011 versions will be better than the current ones on the market.

A: They should be available fall of 2010 at the latest. If you heard about a “better” focus, you are most likely thinking of the 2012 though. Thats when it gets redesigned. It is supposed to be out by early 2011 though

Q: Any thoughts on the 2011 Ford Fiesta? I’ve been thinking of buying a new car this year, either a Focus or…?

A: Of the big three, Ford has the best chance to bounce back. Less dependant on Big SUV’s. Some other factors that I don’t remember off the top of my head.

The Focus is being re-designed for 2012. It isn’t a new model
It’s been here (in the US) for over 10 years.

The Fiesta Movement was done because it is an all new model here in the US and Ford wanted to share the new model and let Americans get to know it before they brought it here. It is already a best seller in the UK and in Asia, for over 30 years

Q: 09 Pontiac Vibe GT vs 2010 Ford Focus SES?
I could afford either car. I can get the 09 Vibe loaded for around $13991 (not including a down payment), with 38,000 miles or I could buy the Focus (new) with every option but leather and end up with a loan for about $15,000 (including a down payment) when all I said and done. Keep in mind they are redesigning the Focus in 2011 or 2012. Also that the vibe uses 95% of the same parts a Toyota Matrix does. Including the gas pedal :/ So which one should I get and give me some reasoning.

I am looking at both the new ones (2011 and 2012). they both look nice so i don’t know which one is better. i am for sure gonna drive both when they come out but which do you think is better and why. the fiesta would def be the hatch, and idk about the focus yet

A: Everyone that I talk to that has a Focus tells me that they have no problems at all with them, even the mechanics that work at Ford tell me that it’s the best car that Ford has come out with.

I would say go with the Focus, 35 MPG on the highway and no issues.

Q: Ford avoided bankruptcy but at who’s expense?
The unemployment rate in the United States reached a 26-year high of 9.7 percent in August 2009, and many economists expect it will continue to rise until it peaks above 10 percent in the first half of next year, Reuters reports.

Meanwhile, positive hiring news came last week from General Motors Co., which announced on Tuesday that it plans to recall 2,400 factory workers to plants in Michigan, Indiana and Kansas, adding additional shifts to the facilities to keep them operating around the clock to meet increased demand for certain vehicles, the New York Times reports. About a month ago, GM said it would rehire 1,350 laid-off factory workers in Ohio and Ontario as it began to increase production after a year of drastic cuts; those workers are scheduled to report in October.

Ford Forecasts 2011 Profitability
In a press conference in New Delhi, India, last week, Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally said he expected his company to return to profitability in 2011, predicting U.S. sales will reach 10.5 to 11 million units in 2009, 12.5 million in 2010 and 14.5 million in 2011, Agence France-Presse reports.

According to Mulally, the outcome of this rate of sales coupled with “[t]he guidance we have given overall — because we continue to invest in new products — is that we will be profitable in 2011.”

Ford, the only major U.S. automaker to have avoided bankruptcy, has gone through three consecutive years of annual losses totaling $30 billion, with a $1.4 billion decline in the first quarter of 2009 alone, AFP reports.

Much of the company’s planned turnaround depends on expanding its presence in Asian markets. According to CNN Money, Ford is investing $500 million in its Indian manufacturing plant to expand production to 200,000 units per year, with a special focus on the new Figo model designed for the Asian small-car market. Ford has similar plans for expansion in China, preparing to construct a new factory in southern China for the production of high-end sedans and sport-utility vehicles at a volume of 300,000 units annually, Bloomberg News reports.

What are these companies doing to help the American worker?

Ford notes that their company has sufficient liquidity to survive the economic recession as long as it doesn’t last too long, but requests a $9 billion “stand-by” line of credit in case they need it. Ford’s plan focuses on plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, not mentioning hybrids and only briefly mentioning biofuels (flex-fuel vehicles).

GM asks for an $18 billion term loan, including up to $10 billion by March ‘09.

What do you think of these plans, and whose bailout plan do you prefer?

A: Hydrogen is a dead-end for the foreseeable future but both companies offer compelling alternatives. Flex fuels and plug-in hybrids are good interim steps until we have better batteries or capacitors to power our cars and the infrastructure to keep them powered. The Chevy Volt is very promising but it’s going to cost so much that a large tax rebate or other incentive will be required for it to be widely adopted in a short time. We need to stop using prime farmland to produce fuel, it’s among the stupidest ideas ever, especially when you can use switchgrass or algae on marginal land and produce several times as much ethanol per acre as you can from corn. Alas, the politicians are in charge of this so I don’t expect much insight to be shown.

Overall, I like Ford’s plan better because it’s cheaper and seems to bypass the folly of hydrogen (which will probably only be a good energy source when we have fusion reactors). The GM plan costs more but offers flex-fuel options and talks about the new for hybrids. In reality we have no choice, politicians simply won’t let millions of manufacturing jobs (all union jobs) go away. In either case this is just a down payment on what it will cost to transition from fossil fuels but since the auto makers need loans the government can exert pressure they would otherwise never accept. Such as mandating electric, hybrid and flex-fuel cars. The next problem is getting people to give up their gas guzzler but once the world economy rebounds gas prices will skyrocket higher than ever, and that might help change minds.

Both plans seem to overlook the fact that even with loans, it may be years until car sales recover to last year’s levels so they may need to do some major downsizing until then. With the unions involved that’s unlikely so I expect more loans to be requested unless they find a way to force us to buy cars when we’re not sure we’ll have a job next month.

Q: Cute First car ideas?
I am thinking about my first car and I want it to be cute, safe, and not to small. And a good price of course. I really want one in yellow or red! I really wanted a Volkswagen bug (Super cute. But my mom says there not safe and cause a lot of problems. I want a mini cooper also…but my mom says there really expensive and also not to safe. :(

Q: I want to get a car Tell me how much i need to make?
Im turning 16 on March 8 2011 I have to work to get my own car I want a used Ford Focus S 2010 how much would a used car cost me? From a dealership itself or a person? Also ill be leasing it for 60 months. I get $25 bucks in my account every month. By The time I reach The month of May ill be working at starbucks $9.50 an hour maybe minimum wage with tips. Ill work their for the end of may,june,july and first few weeks of august. By the beggening of june ill have around $ 650.09-675.09 almost 700 dollers. Plus the money ill be making. How much will i still need to make to get a ford car for at least 11,000$- $12,000 and ill also be adding babysitting money thats 25$ this august for 2 weeks in and selling things to goodwill and adding that end of the month money as well. Just an estimate. Or would i have already reached enough money by then to buy the car? My parents will help with monthly payments.

A: You won’t be leasing a car through a person, You also won’t be able to legally lease anything until you’re 18 years old. Buying a new car especially when your finances are tight is foolish. A better plan would be to save up a few grand and buy a used car outright in cash. Foci has pretty dramatic deprecation, you can probably get on that’s about 3 or 4 years old for around $6-$7k.

If you’re at the point where you’re selling stuff to goodwill and counting on babysitting money to pay for the car, you’ve overextended yourself. Of course should all of this go according to plan (realistically it won’t) at the end of the lease and you turn the car back in, what do you have to show for all the hours at Starbucks, the babysitting, and the selling of your stuff to goodwill? Absolutely nothing.

Q: what car should my dad get mazda 3 or Kia Forte Koupe?
We test drove many cars. Chevy aveo, colbalt, impala, Honda Civic the fuel efficient car dont remember name, accord, ford focus, etc. The best we like r the Kia Foute Koup, Mazda 3 r ones we r leaning toward and the focus.
What ever we get it’ll have blue tooth sunroof good fuel use and standard transmission. the problem is the kia and mazda are soooo good cars. the kia has the pimpin interior and awesume shape. the mazda had more pep in the standard by a little, stereo is sweet (bose) that front grill smile with the is sumthin u cant go wrong w/. second higher level sport trim model. This is a hard decision, hope u guys can help.

Oh yeah we also test drove two Pontiac g6. 07 and 08, good cars but they werent standard..

A: Well… I actually have a 2007 Infiniti G35s sedan and is a good car, but – I’m looking into something more economical. I’ve never considered a Mazda… I’ve always thought of their cars as being bland – untill the new 6 and the 3 came out – they are nice looking, but – as always, out of the big Japanese makers, Mazda is ranked one of the lowest.

Toyota [Lexus], Honda [Acura], Nissan [Infiniti], Subaru…. then there’s Mazda – which would you want??

Anyways, I’m thinking of the Kia Forte Koupe SX: for the price, you can’t beat it… comes with everything… including leather, bluetooth, and a 6 speaker system that BLOWS even my Infiniti G35’s Bose”Studio on Wheels” -10speaker system. –I recently did a test drive 6speed manual:) Very impressive for this price!!!

Seriously – if audio is a consideration… and you think the Bose in the Mazda3 sounds good, go and listen to the Kia’s system [SX] closer >>bring a CD that you know well and compare the 2. YOu’d be surprised, and forget about the brand “Bose” — audio has nothing to do with a “well known brand”.

ps. The engine is a Mitsubishi,Chrysler,Hyundai joint venture engine…. all 3 companies use this engine in their cars. The Dodge Neon’s SRT4’s turbocharged version is the same as the Forte SX’s engine. +powertrain warranty on the Kia is 10years or 100,000miles!!!

Q: How “bad’ is using just water as coolant?
a little background:
-car in question is a 2002 Ford Focus with 82000+ miles
-I bought this with cash back in March 09, after my 04 TSX got totaled, as a stop-gap car. I expect to drive it ground or until the maintenance costs make it not cost-effective to drive it anymore.
-I literally care nothing about the car, but definitely want it to last me at least 2 years.

onto the problem:
A few months ago, my engine overheated. After a couple trips to the mechanic, it was determined that I most likely have a busted head gasket, which causes my coolant level to go to empty every couple of weeks. I decided against fixing the head gasket as thought it would have not been worth the hundreds of dollars it would have cost. I have been temporarily solving this problem by checking
the coolant level and topping it off with coolant when it gets too low. The car has been running with no problems since.

I’ve been reading some of the Yahoo Answers about using water as a coolant, and I’ve gathered that the main concern with using water as a coolant is the fact that it lacks the anti-rust properties of coolant. Secondarily (at least for me), water boils over more easily.

What I want to know is how “bad” is the rusting caused by using water in place of coolant? Will the rusting cause breakdowns before this winter hits (that’s when I would switch back over to anti-freeze, of course)? Keep in mind that I really only expect the car the keep running to March 2011 for me to consider this car a bona fide successful purchase.

A: You’re going to get a lot of answers to the contrary but pure water with a water-pump lubricant (NAPA) will cool the motor better than the system if it had antifreeze. Water-pump lubricant contains water soluble oil which prevents rust in the cooling system.

The problem with antifreeze in the summer is it doesn’t extract heat from the engine as efficiently as water. Conversely the radiator cooling cross tubes can’t get rid of the heat as fast as plain water. If you think a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water raises the boiling point of the coolant, guess again because it doesn’t raise it as much as you think it should. Read the reverse side of any reputable brand of 100% antifreeze. *Using a 15 lb. pressure cap the boiling point raises to 265 degrees Farenheit using a 50/50 mix. As a matter of fact, the boiling point of plain water raises 3 degrees for each pound of pressure. Water would boil @ 257 degrees. What you loose in maximum boiling temperature you gain cooling efficiency because pure water adsorbs and expels heat more efficiently. Antifreeze is a higher viscosity liquid than water. It can’t move through the cooling passages as fast and actually acts as an insulator of heat transfer.

You should switch to a radiator pressure cap that builds less pressure because your system is forcing coolant to leak past the head-gasket into the cylinders or out the sides of the sandwich between the cylinder head and the block. Check the water level
