June 1, 2026 BILIJK – The Wolastoqey Economic Development Corporation (WEDCo) has appointed Salvator Poirier as its Chief Executive Officer.
WEDCo is a newly established, nation-level economic development corporation focused on fostering long-term prosperity and meaningful partnerships for Wolastoqey communities. Grounded in economic reconciliation and economic sovereignty, the corporation is intended to ensure the Wolastoqey Nation has a meaningful voice at the development table and can generate lasting wealth for future generations.
A Wolastoqey professional, Poirier brings experience in community-based project leadership, economic development, environmental management, and clean energy. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
“Poirier brings exactly the right leadership WEDCo needs at this critical juncture,” said Chief Tim Paul of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). “As WEDCo moves toward official incorporation and begins pursuing major projects, we are confident in our CEO’s ability to help build a strong economic foundation that moves our Nation toward financial sustainability.”
As CEO, Poirier will lead the corporation’s daily operations, finalize its corporate structure, and advance major nation-level opportunities.
A key mandate for WEDCo will be pursuing projects that uplift all Wolastoqey communities without competing with community-level initiatives. By securing large-scale contracts, WEDCo aims to create high-paying jobs and opportunities for Wolastoqey businesses and workers, while bringing revenue back to communities to support local programs.
WEDCo will also begin a community engagement process led by Poirier to help establish the corporation’s direction, in consultation with communities.
